Migrations
So I’ve been slowly going through all my blog posts lately, converting them to YAML+Markdown to use with Jekyll
Right now, I’m working on posts from my most recent blog Disordered Thought Processes
I’ve been paying for multiple webhosts because at the time I created Disordered Thought Processes, DreamHost’s shared servers really couldn’t handle Rails all that well1,2,3,4,5, so I signed up for hostingrails, but then it got bought by Jumpline and I stopped mucking around with blog engines for a long while.
In an effort to save some money, I’m trying to consolidate all my blogs into one monolithic site.
Disordered Thought Processes has been running on Mephisto, a Rails-based blog engine that hadn’t been updated since 2009. I tried getting it to run on DreamHost again, but it won’t run on the current Ruby and Rails environment because it depends on super-old versions of support libraries.
But apparently, Sebastian Gräßl (bastilian) forked Mephisto and had been maintaining up until 2013, so I am tempted to try it again for shits and giggles.
The thing that is driving me a little batty, though, is the weird way that Mephisto handles timestamps. Apparently, it stores them in UTC but then displays them in local time. Depending on what hour you’re posting, this can result in timestamps and permalinks being a day off.
Right now, I’m in the middle of 2010 and working chronologically backwards, but the post density increases greatly, and I suspect it will take me some time to get all the way back to 2006.
