Mutation and Evolution of Bitstreams
Mutation of Bitstreams
The process by which random noise gets incorporated into a message
Evolution of Bitstreams
Mutaiton occurs in the message-carrying media, in the encoding transmitter, or in the interpreting receiver—the latter two are typically incredibly complex phenomenon
Selection of Bitstreams
The process by which random noise becomes transformed into a meaningful patter.
Amplication in msg: Noise is interpreted by Peer I as a barely recognizable pattern. Msg 2 is subliminally modified by the Peer I’s interpretation of Msg 1. This modification is the manifestation of the mutation.
Genetic selection is a form of pattern recognition.
Mental focus: continued existence of a “meme”; my ability to discard random noise and not look for any patterns in it.
Focus—replication fidelity—and creativity—mutation—are antagonistic to each other.
