Just came across a tumblr entry which demonstrates a novel (to me, at least) use of the word “stat”.

Which made me think of all the disparate uses of the word “stat”.

stat¹

n. abbreviated form of STATISTIC

stat²

adv. in medicine, immediately [from L. statim]</dd>

stat³

v. in computer programming, to obtain status information of a file.

stat⁴

n. in social networks, abbreviated form of STATUS UPDATE.
